在中国设计及设计教育发展史上,陈之佛是一位值得纪念的人物,他处在一个中国现代设计拓荒的年代。对于当时中国设计(工艺)中所存在的问题,以陈之佛为代表的拓荒者们进行了诸多有益的探索,为日后中国的设计(工艺)教育规划了方向、设定了目标。当时提出的设计问题不仅直至今日尚未彻底解决,而且新的问题还在呈几何级地递增,“面对问题”已经成为当代中国设计与设计教育者最基本的文化姿态。正是基于这点,今天重读《陈之佛全集》,探求近百年来中国设计中的问题症结所在,从中梳理出一条基本线索,进而寻求一种在2 1世纪下再构中国新造物体系的方法与路径,有着十分重要的特殊意义。
