In 1998, the per capita net income of Henan farmers was 1864.05 yuan, after deducting the price factor, the actual increase of 6.5% over the previous year. The overall level of consumer prices of rural residents in the province and the general price level of agricultural means of production dropped by 3.1% and 4.3% respectively as compared with the previous year, with the increase in income and the decrease in prices. As a general rule, the purchase of production and living materials by peasants should increase over the previous years.
