Northeast China is a region rich in anthropological resources. However, Northeast China is undoubtedly lagging behind the great progress made in other areas in anthropological investigation in recent years. To start the northeast study of anthropology, the most important task of course is to conduct a long-term, thorough and detailed field investigation of the native peoples in this region, especially the Tungusic people. At the same time, we should also understand and absorb and draw lessons from the results of anthropological investigations conducted by our predecessors and foreign scholars in this region. The foreign survey mainly focuses on Russia and Japan. What this article intends to discuss is the significance of the anthropological investigation of Heilongjiang valley in Russia (including the Soviet Union) for the study of northeast China.
