阿根廷不仅因为出口粮食和肉类而骄傲,而且还能出口“果蝇核武器”。这种果蝇是经过钴照射过的昆虫,利用这种昆虫可以消除果园中的主要病虫害。这种果蝇现在已经销售到西班牙和巴西等国。阿根廷西部的门多萨省已经有这样的繁殖工厂,每周可生产大约1.2亿只这种威力强大的昆虫。
Argentina is not only proud of its exports of food and meat, but also exported “fruit fly nuclear weapons.” The Drosophila is a cobalt-irradiated insect that can be used to eliminate major pests and diseases in orchards. The fruit fly is now sold in countries such as Spain and Brazil. There are already such breeding factories in the province of Mendoza in western Argentina that produce about 120 million powerful insects a week.
