来华传教士在晚清西学东渐中扮演了重要角色,也是他们首次较为系统地将西方经济学说输入中国,他们的著述活动是19世纪西方经济学说在华传播的主要途径。传教士在19世纪初期极力鼓吹中国打开大门,因而大肆宣扬通商有益及自由贸易学说,鼓动中国开利源;在19世纪中叶前后受中国自强运动影响,输入西方各种经济政策,并翻译经济学著作,促进中国思想界以及经济实践向近代的发展。
The missionaries in China played an important role in the gradual progress of Western learning in the late Qing Dynasty. It was the first time that they systematically imported western economic theory into China. Their writings and activities were the main means by which Western economic theory spread in China in the 19th century. In the early 19th century, missionaries strongly advocated that China open the door, so as to preach the theory of profitable trade and free trade and encourage China to open up its profits. Influenced by China’s self-improvement movement in the mid-19th century, it imported various economic policies in the West and translated economics Works to promote the Chinese intellectual community and economic practice to the development of the modern era.
