Chlorophenazine is the most widely used and effective anti-leprosy drug and is particularly effective in the treatment of chlorpheniramine-resistant leprosy and leprosy-nodular erythema. It may be due to its antimicrobial and immunosuppressive properties for controlling and preventing the reaction. This drug is shown to stimulate the release of peroxynitrite and induce the synthesis of lysozyme by macrophages cultured under therapeutic conditions. Chlorphenazine enhances neutrophil pairing
