CMVIV genomic RNA irradiated with 60Coγ-rays of different doses was co-inoculated with CMV satellite RNA (1-CARNA5 ) on tobacco plant.The disease index of the plants reflects the interfering character of satellite RNA.By analysing the amount of CMV RF dsRNA and CP in the plants,the suppression of early expression of CP by satellite RNA was found,and the suppression was heavier when there was a larger amount of 1-CARNA5 in the plant.but there was no direct relation between the plant symptom and the amount of CP in leaf tissue,indicating that satellite RNA could attenuate the symptom of the infected plants,but not by the way of suppressing the expression of viral CP directly.
