The influence of detector peak wavelength on the performance of thermal imaging system is analyzed. In the analysis, the parameter of the radiation function (usually expressed as M *) is used because it contains the wavelength-dependent components of the quality factor of the thermal imaging system such as the NETD and the minimum resolvable temperature MRT). The radiation function was calculated using a computer for an improved LOWTRAN III atmospheric model in the 3-14 micron wavelength range; from 0.2 to 30 km; in clear and hazy conditions.
