The detailed mechanism of neonatal oxygen poisoning is not yet fully understood. Recent studies have shown that nitric oxide (NO) is also inextricably linked with neonatal hypoxic lung injury. This article reviews the effects of hyperoxia exposure on lung NO content, the dual role that NO may play in hyperoxia-induced lung injury and the treatment prospects associated with it.
