Dental casting alloys are widely used in oral clinical practice. However, due to the complex microenvironment in the oral cavity during the long-term use of the alloy after being repaired, the corrosion of the alloy in the oral cavity will cause the precipitation of metal ions. A large number of studies have found that these precipitated metal ions will cause different degrees of chronic toxicities to nearby tissues and cells, including local adverse reactions and systemic adverse reactions. Due to the low incidence of systemic adverse reactions and the limited data reported, local oral adverse reactions caused by metal ions precipitated in the alloy have become hot topics both at home and abroad. In this paper, the current research status of the toxic and side effects of the metal ions precipitated by alloy casting on the tissues and cells and the corresponding cell regulatory mechanisms are reviewed.
