20世纪70年代以来西方的女性主义电影研究吸收了心理学、符号学、后结构主义、后殖民主义等方面理论的滋养,对西方的主流电影,包括好莱坞商业电影,展开反思性的批评。随着性别研究的普及后女性主义、男性气质研究、跨性别研究等方面理论成果被应用于电影研究。20世纪90年代之后,越来越多的中国电影走出国门,在全球观众中产生很大的反响,也成为国际学术界关注的热点话题。南京大学人文社会科学高级研究院与美国布朗大学的彭布鲁克妇女研究中心、考格特人文中心以及东亚研究系在2008年联合成立了“南大-布朗性别与人文合作研究项目几年来在南京大学和布朗大学举办
Since the 1970s, western feminist film studies have absorbed the theories of psychology, semiotics, post-structuralism and post-colonialism, and have conducted reflective criticisms of Western mainstream films, including Hollywood commercial films. With the popularization of gender studies, the theoretical achievements in feminism, masculinity studies and transgender studies have been applied to cinema studies. Since the 1990s, more and more Chinese films have gone abroad and have had a great impact on the global audience. This has also become a hot topic of concern to the international academic community.
