1946年,北京大学从战时的西南联大分离开来,迁回北平复校。在故乡湖北黄梅住了九年之久的废名动了回北大教书的念头,乃与友人联系。这时已在北大的杨振声、朱光潜等赞成废名返校,并为他牵引。这件事很快办成了。这一年的夏天,北京大学战后第一次招生,在武汉设有招生处和考场,于是我从黄梅到武汉报考北大西方语言文学系,被录取。这样,我同叔父就一同离乡北上。
In 1946, Peking University was separated from the Southwest United University in wartime and moved back to the Peking Rehabilitation School.
