Objective To investigate the relationship between central arterial pressure and peripheral brachial artery pressure in patients with essential hypertension. Methods We selected the patients with simple essential hypertension from Liaobu community in Dongguan. All the patients underwent standard peripheral brachial artery and non-invasive measurement of central arterial pressure. The renal function, blood lipids and serum uric acid were measured. Spearman’s correlation was used to analyze the correlation . Results A total of 491 hypertensive patients were enrolled, with a mean age of (56.2 ± 10.1) years, of whom 230 (46.8%) were women, and mean systolic and diastolic pressures were (136.88 ± 22.65) and (82.32 ± 9.30) mm Hg (123.74 ± 19.91) and (82.41 ± 13.62) mm Hg, respectively. The systolic pressure of the brachial artery was correlated with the systolic pressure of the central artery (r = 0.972, P <0.01). The brachial artery diastolic pressure And central artery diastolic pressure is also positively correlated (r = 0.993, P <0.01). Conclusion There is a significant positive correlation between central arterial pressure and peripheral brachial artery pressure in patients with essential hypertension. Non-invasive measurement of arterial blood pressure easy to operate, suitable for large-scale clinical examination.
