农林复合生态系统具有改善土壤水分状况的功能;能够提高土壤水分利用效率,棉花提高15.6%,玉米提高16.1%,小麦提高15.2%;土壤湿度具有明显的季节性变化,以6月份为最低,7月份为最高,在作物各个生育阶段,系统内均高于系统外;在作物生育期内,土壤总耗水量,系统内较系统外低7%左右。用逐步回归方法研究表明:影响系统内外农田耗水量的主要因素是动力因素,系统内湍流交换减弱造成了农田耗水量减少。
