The railway transportation sector is a large energy consumer, where locomotive energy consumption accounts for about 60% to 70% of the total energy consumption. Taking the 1987 energy consumption of Chengdu Railway Sub-bureau as an example, the annual consumption of standard coal was 180,000 tons, of which locomotive consumption and coal consumption were converted to 120,000 tons of standard coal, accounting for 66.7% of the total energy consumption.
