第一次见到魏建功先生是在1960年9月我考入北京大学中文系不久的古典文献专业迎新会上。我们全班27名新生坐在第一教室楼一楼西头的一间教室里,教室经我们布置用桌椅围成了一个半圆形的会场。魏先生在几名年轻教师的簇拥下进来,他绕场一周,精神抖擞地与我们每一个新生握手,然后先生站在黑板前面讲了一通话,直至今天我还记得的是他说古典文献专业是中央和国务院要求建立的,从1959年开办,今年是第二届,白手起家,有如“大庆”,创业艰辛;“大庆”出的是石油,是工业中的基础,我们古典文献专业出的是人才,是社会科学中的重工业,也是基础。先生操着带有江苏海安味的普通话
