柴胡的功用主要有三个方面:一是和解退热,用于外感风热表证之发热,微恶寒,头痛等症,透表泄热,如柴葛解肌汤;再用于邪在少阳半表半里之寒热往来,口苦咽干,心烦喜呕之证,引邪透表外出,如小柴胡汤。二是升阳举陷,常与益气药配伍,用于气虚下陷,久泻脱肛,子宫脱垂及胃下垂等症,如补中益气汤。三是疏肝解郁,常作为肝经的引经药,为治疗肝气郁结,胁肋胀痛,头晕目眩及月经不调之要药,如逍遥散。

The second is sun-lifting depression, often with Yiqi compatibility, for qi deficiency subsidence, chronic diarrhea rectal prolapse, uterine prolapse and gastroptosis embolism, such as Buzhong Yiqi Decoction. The third is Shugan Jieyu, which is often used as a drug for the treatment of liver qi. It is used to treat liver qi stagnation, flank pain, dizziness, and irregular menstruation, such as Xiaoyao San.
