[French “Energy Express” reported on November 25, 1994] U.S. Defense Secretary William Perry announced that Kazakhstan has transited about 600 kilograms of highly enriched uranium to the United States. W. Perry pointed out that this transshipment was carried out at the express request of the Kazakh government. Kazakhstan hopes that these military nuclear materials will not be used for possible smuggling, terrorist activities or falling into new nuclear-weapon states. These fissile materials can actually make 20-25 nuclear missiles. These 600 kilograms of HEU have been stored at a nuclear joint venture in Sikam Noonosk, in the central Ulbar region, about 1300 kilometers northwest of Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan. 3
