紫色土,是在紫色砂页岩风化母质上弱度发育的土壤。由于其母岩富含各种盐基元素,(主要是钙、硅、铁、铝、磷等),发育的土壤养份含量较丰富,颜色深暗,矿物颗粒粗细不匀,泥砂间胶结较松弛,岩体吸热能力较强,加上地形陡峻,成土迅速,风化强烈,水土流失较严重。紫色土常年保持幼年阶段。如何扬长避短,趋利避害,合理地改良利用紫色土,是需要探讨的一个课题。
