在岭南三高当中,高剑僧(图1)跟其兄长高奇峰一样,也是天不假年的一位画家,而且是高氏三兄弟中最早夭折的一位年轻画家。他1912年随高冠天、高剑父、高奇峰一行到沪,约一年后由高剑父出资负笈东嬴。1916年留学结束准备回国前夕不幸染病去世,年仅23岁。所以,高剑僧是岭南三高中传世作品最少的一位。不过,值得一提的是,广东省博物馆藏《枝上幽禽图》(彩图28),倒可以肯定是他民国初年作于上海的作品,因题款“番禺高剑僧写于申江客次”非常明确(图2)。而“申江”者,正是
