120年前,一场战争改变了中日两国命运。从某种角度看,甲午战争是一次争夺现代国家入场券的竞赛。遗憾的是,我们完败。120年后,日本人已忘掉了这场战争,教科书中对比只是一笔带过,甚至没提清政府对日的巨额赔款,正是这笔巨额赔款推动了后来日本经济腾飞。而中国人依然痛在心中,我们执着地在追问:为什么会失败?确实,有太多似是而非的理由。
120 years ago, a war changed the fate of China and Japan. In some ways, the Sino-Japanese War is a contest for tickets to modern nations. Unfortunately, we are defeated. After 120 years, the Japanese have forgotten the war. The comparison in the textbooks only brought a single sum of money without even noticing the huge government indemnity against Japan. It is this huge sum of money that has helped to fuel Japan’s economic growth. While the Chinese are still hurting in the heart, we persevere in asking: why fail? Indeed, there are too many plausible reasons.
