On Jan. 19, 2012, Kodak, the king of celluloid era put itself into bankruptcy protection after struggling for years to adapt to an increasingly digital world.
Founded in 1880, Eastman Kodak Co. is one of America’s most notable companies which invented the hand-held camera, helping establish the market for camera film and then dominating the field. Although Kodak was one of the original inventors of digital photography, it failed to keep pace with developments in the market. Kodak has been running low on cash and unable to attract buyers for its assets for a long time.
Former Kodak vice president Don Strickland insists the firm’s late entry into the digital market is a key factor in its recent troubles. “There will be no more ‘Kodak moments’ after 133 years, the company has run its course.”
Meanwhile, Hollywood is saying goodbye to celluloid film which has been used for 120 years in cinemas around the world. It will be replaced by digital photography.
All above clarify that the celluloid era will end. Maybe it’s time to say goodbye to celluloid.
