通过对临夏农村生活能源利用现状的调查研究认为：农村对生活能源的不合理利用可导致农业生产系统功能下降，生态环境恶化，严重影响农业的持续发展和农民生活水平的提高；合理调整能源结构，积极发展能源资源，大力推广节能技术是当前临夏农村解决生活用能的当务之急；种草种树，发展绿色再生能源是解决生活用能紧缺的首要措施；积极推广太阳灶、节柴节煤灶是行之有效的补充措施；发展食草畜，使桔杆过腹过沼气池还田是合理利用自然资源的先进措施。以上措施配套实施则会产生明显的经济效益和持久的生态效益。
