Objective: To determine the incidence of HCV infection in SLE patients and its clinical significance. Methods: The HCV infection in 134 SLE patients and 200 normal blood donors was detected by ELISA - 3 and RIBA - 3. Results: The results showed that HCV antibody was positive in 18 cases of SLE (13%) and 2 normal donors (1%) (P <0.01) = 0. 01, P <0.01). The incidence of liver damage, hypocomplementemia and cryoglobulinemia were higher (P <0.01, P = 0.002, P = 0 .0 3, P = 0 .0 2). CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of HCV infection in SLE patients is significantly higher than that in normal subjects. In addition to the different clinical manifestations of HCV antibody-positive SLE patients, their immunological characteristics are low incidence of ds-DNA antibody, hypocomplementemia, cryoglobulins High incidence of sepsis.
