建筑材料工业是国民经济重要的原材料工业和基础工业,改革开放以来,山西建材工业得到了长足发展。目前,全省建材工业已形成一个以大、中型企业为骨干,中、小企业遍布全省,产品门类比较齐全、配套,工艺技术水平比较先进,产业结构比较合理,具有一定科研、设计、地质勘探力量,在能源重化工基地建设中有着举足轻重地位的支柱产业。1997年全省建材工业总产值完成115亿,比90年代初增长了70％,年平均增长8.6％,占全省工业总产值的8％。主要产品水泥产量比90年代初翻了一番,达到1420万吨;浮法玻璃从无到有,产量达到350万重量箱,填补了全省建材产品空白;卫生陶瓷、石膏、墙地砖、釉面砖、石材等几十种产品都有了大幅度增长。在产量增长的同时,产品质量、品种、档次、配套水平等都有了大幅度提高。目前,425号以上
