February 19, Development and Reform Commission announced in January this year, consumer price index (CPI) rose 7.1%, the highest monthly high since 1997. The price of foodstuffs rose the most, up 18.2% over the same period of last year. Among them, the price of food rose by 5.7%. According to the figures, the retail prices of early indica rice, late indica rice, japonica rice, standard flour and fortified flour in January 2008 increased by 3.4%, 2.5%, respectively, compared with the same period of last year.
