在鄂伦春族的传统中,火象征着生命、光明。因此,平日里的人际纠葛,在圣火前便化为灰烬,只有如火般温暖的情谊。甚至闹别扭的两口子,也在篝火舞中和好如初。因此,篝火舞一直跳到深夜群星闪烁的时候,大伙儿尽兴而止。每年初春的祭山神仪式是鄂伦春族吉祥的日子。按照传统方式,这种活动由萨满主持。萨满教萌生于人猿别后人类漫长的蒙昧时代,兴起并繁荣于母系氏族社会,绵续于父系氏族社会、奴隶社会、封建社会,其影响一直延续到今天。
