OBJECTIVE: To investigate the demineralization effect of carbonated beverages on adolescent permanent teeth by observing the isolated young permanent enamel treated with carbonated drinks by scanning electron microscopy. Methods: Twenty young maxillary maxillary first premolar teeth were randomly divided into group A and group B (10 teeth per group). The teeth of group A were placed in carbonated drink (Coca Cola) And then shaken periodically. The morphological changes of the tooth enamel surface were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). After the teeth of group B were washed with distilled water, the teeth were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) Enamel surface morphology. Results: The enamel surface of group A was soft, extremely rough, porous and honeycomb demineralized. The surface of enamel of group B was dense and smooth, even and smooth, with occasional superficial scratches. Conclusion: Carbonated beverages can cause enamel demineralization and excessive consumption of carbonated beverages by adolescents can cause damage to the teeth.
