The increasing use of various crawler vehicles, bulldozers and haulage tractors, and the often harsh operating conditions, make the cooling of these large diesel installations harder than ever before. To evaluate the heat generated by a construction machine, suppose that a 225 hp crawler diesel engine operates at a maximum load of 70% and the heat generated by the engine in one hour is enough to heat a standard house for a day and a half. One-third of the heat becomes power, the other one-third by exhaust emissions, the remaining one-third must be cooling system
