《字宙锋》这出戏是梅兰芳老师的代表作之一。一九五六年,我们上海京剧院准备出国访问,原来准备带这出戏出国。当时这出戏由吕君樵导演,后来考虑到国外观众不易理解,便没带它出去。因此,从那时起我就开始琢磨,怎样下功夫把这出戏整理得紧凑、炽烈一些。粉碎“四人帮”后重返舞台,我又想起了《宇宙锋》这出戏。为了实现自己多年的宿愿,我决定再次排演《宇宙锋》。这次重排《宇宙锋》,仍由吕君樵同志同我合作。对待一出传统名剧,首先要继承学习好,才能说到创新和发展。梅兰芳老师的表演无疑值得我们很好
