旧时有联曰:“阅尽人情知纸厚,踏穿世路觉山平。”这里以“纸薄”托出“人情更薄”,以“山不平”托出“世路更不平”。还有层层托出的:“五岳归来不看山。黄山归来不看岳。”这里以一般山之美托起五岳之更美,又以五岳之更美托起黄山之至美。以上例中,列出诸项,构成序列,将其中一项托举到第一的位置,以凸显其意义。运用“托”的机智比起直接就一项说一项来,因为有了比较项、参照系,所以能使意义更突出,仿佛有了“撬动”重物的“支点”,因此语言的力度大大增强。
