1980年湖口县农科所从中国农科院油料所引进“宜阳白”进行了芝麻品种比较试验,试验结果,“宜阳白”亩产187.5斤,比对照中芝七号145.2斤,增产42.3斤,增产率为21.6％。1985年在城山、武山乡、县农科所等几十户农家种植,其中杨云兰种植的0.4亩,收芝麻98斤,折合亩产245斤;饶桂花种植的0.4亩,收芝麻106斤,折合亩产265斤;杨细田在丘陵旱地种植1.6亩,遭受严重干旱,总产仍收到270斤,折合亩产130斤。由于“宜阳白”产量高而稳,种子纯白色,籽粒饱满,深受群众欢迎。
