The National Symposium on the Application of Integrated Management of Crop Diseases and Pests was held on November 11-15, 1990 in Nanjing Agricultural University and was jointly held by the Agricultural Pest Committee of the Chinese Entomological Society and the Chinese Society of Plant Protection. Nearly 100 delegates made special reports during the conference and group discussions, basically reflecting the achievements made in the basic research on the comprehensive management of crop diseases and pests in China during the “Seventh Five-Year Plan” period. The theoretical foundation for the establishment of a comprehensive prevention system has risen from a simple combination of prevention and control measures of the Sixth Five-Year Plan with various pests and diseases to a holistic approach based on the overall situation of production and the agroecosystem.
