Objective To understand the content of trace elements in children in Zhoushan island area and the changing rules in different periods and provide guidance for children’s preventive health care. Methods The trace elements of tens of thousands of children who carried out physical examination in the department of pediatrics from January 2008 to December 2012 were tested by random sampling method. The blood lead, zinc, calcium, iron, Magnesium, copper content analysis. Results The results of various trace elements in 2008-2012 showed that the results of blood lead in 2012 and 2011 were higher than those in 2008, P <0.05; the results of blood calcium in 2012 were higher than those in 2008, P <0.05; the results of other elements were compared The difference was not statistically significant. From 2008 to 2012, the abnormal rates of various trace elements showed that the blood lead, blood zinc, blood iron and blood calcium had obvious abnormal rate, and there was no obvious abnormality in blood magnesium and blood copper. The abnormal rates of blood lead from 2008 to 2012 were 10.2%, 10.9%, 11.8%, 12.9% and 13.7%, respectively. There was an upward trend in blood lead. The abnormal rates of blood calcium from 2008 to 2012 were 9.2%, 8.7% and 8.3% 8.0% and 7.4%, a downward trend. Conclusion The detection rate of abnormal blood lead in island children has been increasing year by year in recent 5 years. The situation of calcium deficiency has been improved year by year with less lack of Mg and Cu. Therefore, children should be regularly detected the concentration of trace elements in blood and keep abreast of children’s nutritional status for the healthy development of children is of great significance.
