Laminated composites made of AS-4 graphite fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) prepreg tapes, double-filament co-textiles and mixed silk textiles have attracted worldwide attention for their aerospace materials. This article describes the physical and mechanical properties of this material and analyzes the microstructure of the material using a scanning electron microscope. I. Materials The traditional APC-2 PEEK prepreg reinforced with unidirectional AS-4 graphite fibers is provided by ICI. Recently the potential for the newly developed graphite-PEEK fabric with bicomponent and mixed silk fabrics for the manufacture of complex shaped parts is being explored.
