信阳地处豫南,水产资源丰富,发展潜力大,是河南省重点渔区。党的十一届三中全会以来,信阳的水产业发生了巨大变化,水面利用和水产品总量迅速增加,1993年分别达到88.4万亩和5.4万吨,水产业总产值达3.04亿元(1990年不变价),水产品总量占全省的40%,水产品养殖结构也发生了很大变化,草鱼、鲤鱼、团头鲂(武昌鱼)、甲鱼、子莲等名、特、优、新水产品占总量的31.5%,信阳水产业迈上了优质高产高效开发的新路子。
