The ribbon pattern is a two-dimensional linear spatial frequency sweep pattern that can be used to quickly evaluate the frequency characteristics of a television system. Applications discussed in this article include measurement of filter characteristics, light source and display characteristics, sub-Nyquist sampling system defects , PAL encoding and decoding, and standard conversion. This pattern can be electronically made into a circular or hyperbolic form, while the latter is simpler and has the artwork for this pattern generator.
