The New Left Movement in the United States in the 1960s was a student movement initiated by young leftists who took university students as the mainstay and tried to get rid of the traditional leftist dogma. This paper analyzes and summarizes the main points in Todd Gitlin’s “Mirror of the New Left Movement” and points out that the failure of the New Left Movement is closely related to the non-difficult and distorted reports of the mass media. And there is interaction between the mass media and the real world. Gitlin critically pointed out that the “objectivity” advocated by Western mass media is institutionalized objectively, and the mass media is not purely “objectively neutral.” The interaction between the mass media and the real world has not disappeared with the passage of time. This article takes Luo Xiaoxiao as an example to analyze the case. Combined with Gitlin’s point of view, the mass media are using the new media to interact with the real world, thus eliminating the construction of the real world.
