《北海十二石记》(载《长岛县志》)是苏东坡的记石散文名作,也是关于北海长岛石的扛鼎之作。该记作于1093年,也就是“五日登守”苏东坡,离开登州8年之后,回朝任礼部尚书,又至定州任上所作,离吴子野游登州也有二十四年之久。苏东坡在《北海十二石记》里写道:“登州下临大海,目力所及,沙门、鼍矶、车牛、大竹、小竹凡五岛。惟沙门最近,兀然焦枯。其余皆紫翠巉绝,出没涛中,真神仙所宅也。上生石芝,草木皆
