自古书契(qi)①,多编以竹简,其用缣 (jian)②帛(b6)③者,谓之为纸。缣贵而简重, 并不便于人。伦④乃适意,用树肤、麻头及敝布、鱼网以为纸。元兴元年⑤,奏上之。帝善其能,自是莫不从用焉。故天下咸称“蔡侯纸”。【注释】①契:合同、文书等凭证。②缣: 细密的绢。③帛:丝织品的总称。④伦:指蔡伦, 他曾任中常侍(职官名称),主管制造官廷器物,封龙亭侯。⑤元兴元年:公元105年;元兴
