The poem “See You” by the famous American modern poet Joan Valentine is divided into two parts about her mother and her lover respectively. The poet strives to show the importance of both mother and lover in one’s life and the similarities and differences between the two. The first verse of the poem indicates that parents can only give their children life, but they can not create their own life. The child must fly out of the mother’s hand to seize the kite in order to have the same shining future as the stars. Fear and anxiety of the mother scared the child, but the mother’s encouragement and motivation rest assured the child was calm. The second section “I ” found another person, this feeling and the mother’s feelings are different, less the mother’s authority, more equal exchange, brought the future. In the face of new uncertain feelings, “I ” experienced the same fear, but after experiencing a stormy, finally found the inner peace, find their own beautiful garden.
