寻寻觅觅,选定燕京大学新校址1919年春天,司徒雷登正式走马上任,出任燕京大学的校长。“那时的燕大是一无可取。我们很局促地住在城内,没有教员也没有设备……学生不到百人,教员中只有两位中国人,许多西方教员不合于大学教授的条件。”更要命的是“常年经费有一半是落空的”。学校当前的情况需要更换一个更适合发展的校址,不然燕京则没有办法发展。
