利用钒催化氯酸钾氧化苯肼,继与H-酸偶合得紫红色的偶氮化合物可测定痕量钒(V),于527nm处测量紫红色反应产物的吸光度,当钒量在0.001~0.1μg/25ml范围时呈线性关系,方法灵敏度的表观摩尔吸光系数ε为0.8×10~7。硒等元素的干扰可藉碱沉淀分离法予以消除,用于钢铁等试样中钒的测定、结果尚满意。
