Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchored polypeptides of the Toxoplasma gondii surface have been shown to be associated with molecules that adhere to host cells. Most of these proteins are members of the SAG1 family, which are similar in structure and sequence to the TAG epitope of SAG1 (or P30). The authors demonstrate that the SAG5-encoded protein of T. gondii has structural and biochemical properties specific to SAG1-associated surface antigens.
