1 INTRODUCTION Due to the wealth, cheapness and relative strength of steel, it is convinced that in the 21st century, steel will remain as the basic material in our life and maintain its important role. However, the environment, economic and ecological conditions surrounding the steel industry have undergone tremendous changes. In order to adapt to these changes, new technologies must be developed. Recently, Japan conducted a study on the 21st century new blast furnace project to solve the above problems. This article mainly discusses the latest development of Japanese ironmaking technology, especially the 21st century blast furnace project.
