太平天国史料的搜集工作,早已开始。新中国成立以来,这项工作得到党和政府的重视,在前人的基础上,又经许多同志三十多年的辛勤劳动,取得了显著成果。迄今为止,太平天国本身的文献发现了一千多件,其中官书四十二部,文书四百余件,文物五百余种。另外又从清方记载中发现了大宗史料,其中清政府档案上万件,私家著述上千种,方志七百余种。这些史料陆续出版已有八、九百万字。今分太平天图文献、清方记载二个方面来叙述。
The collection of historical materials of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom has long since begun. Since the founding of new China, this work has received the attention of the party and the government. On the basis of its predecessors, and with the hard work of many comrades for more than 30 years, remarkable achievements have been made. So far, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom itself has found more than a thousand documents, of which forty-two are official books, four hundred are documents, and five hundred are cultural relics. In addition, a large number of historical materials were found in the Qing Recorded Records, among which tens of thousands were archives of the Qing government, thousands of private writings, and over 700 kinds of local records.
