放了学,柯可急急忙忙地出了校门,朝百货大楼走去。明天是爸爸的生日,他要送他一样礼物,给他一个惊喜。三天前,偶尔走过百货大楼,突然发现橱窗里有顶帽子,越看越像福尔摩斯头上的那一顶。柯可读过全套《福尔摩斯探案集》,那套书上画的大侦探戴的就是这种帽子。柯可的爸爸是上海滩上的一名大警长。柯可越琢磨越相信,要是老爸戴上这顶帽子,一准比福尔摩斯更像福尔摩斯!柯可这么琢磨着,已经走进百货大楼。鞋帽柜在三楼。经过底楼时,突然听见珠宝柜台前传出吵架的声音,像是一名顾客与一位营业员不知为了什么事,越吵越凶。只见越来越多的人正在朝着珠宝柜台涌去,柯可也不由自主地走了过去。他很快就弄明白了是怎么回事。这位身穿花格子西装、挺着个大肚子的顾客,一副财大气粗的样子。他
