1989年5月,在世界卫生组织(WHO)第42届大会上,来自中国山西省运城地区口腔疾病防治中心的牛东平医师,被授予了笹川卫生奖。笹川卫生奖是日本的笹川良一先生倡议并捐资创立的,用来奖励那些在初级卫生保健工作中作出突出贡献者牛东平是我国第一位获得这一殊荣的人。 1975年,牛东平从部队医院转业,回到家乡山西省运城,被分配到运城卫校当老师。运城地区地下水含氟量高,群众患牙病很普遍,但当时全地区仅有5位口腔医师,群众看牙病十分困难。1976年初,牛东平与爱人一起开办了一个牙科诊所,
In May 1989, at the 42nd General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Niu Dongping, from the Center of Oral Disease Control in Yuncheng District, Shanxi Province, China, was awarded the Sasakawa Hygiene Award. The Sasakawa Hygiene Prize was initiated and donated by Mr. Shinichi Sakagawa of Japan. It was used to reward those who made outstanding contributions in primary health care work. Niu Dongping was the first person in China to receive this honor. In 1975, Niu Dongping was transferred from a military hospital and returned to Yuncheng, Shanxi Province, where he was assigned as a teacher at Yuncheng Health School. In the Yuncheng area, the fluoride content of groundwater is high, and the population suffers from dental disease. However, at the time, there were only five oral physicians in the entire region, and it was very difficult for the public to see dental problems. In early 1976, Niu Dongping and his lover opened a dental clinic.
