Bellow, a contemporary Jewish writer in the United States, is best known for describing male Jewish intellectuals, but many women in his work are also worth exploring. Looking at Bellow’s life, in shaping the female image, he has obvious subjective misunderstanding of women by male author of patriarchal society and resentment and disgust of feminism and female independent personality. Women become the other in his male-centered narrative. On the other hand, the heroines Eva and Madeleine in his works all have varying degrees of awareness of female awakening and independence. This article mainly criticizes Bellow’s patriarchal consciousness, misogyny and feminist criticism Point of view to support. At the end of the article, I also point out the feminist awakening revealed in her works, which is the original intention or not of Bellow’s work, which is worth further exploration.
