邓小平同志无论是对内强调一心一意发展生产力,集中精力把中国的事情办好,还是对外强调独立自主,反对任何形式的霸权主义和强权政治,都是立足于维护中华民族利益,把我国建设成富强、民主、文明的社会主义现代化国家。在《邓小平文选》第三卷中,处处洋溢着与中国特色社会主义相统一的爱国主义精神,洋溢着热爱伟大祖国、振兴中华的民族气概和民族精神,正如江泽民同志指出的:“建设有中国特色社会主义理论是社会主义和爱国主义相统一的科学理论。”邓小平同志早在十二大时就提出:
